Showdown

There's a stand-off happening in our backyard right now.

It's Harry...

... versus the Blue Tongued Lizard.

So far they're just lookin' at each other. I'll let you know if there's any developments.

I rescued a bluetongue from Honey once. The bugger bit me hard through a thick leather glove. Ungrateful bastard!

My cat's best mate is a blue tongue. of course now that it has the cat's protection, it's become more crocodile-size. Soon I'll have that crocodile idiot wrassling it in the front yard. *sigh*

There is always a blue tongued lizard living in my parents compost heap... my siamese used to be most intruiged by it. :) Now he's just old and grumpy. Harry looks cute!

4 · Sarz said:

is it true that the wounds from their bites keep coming back...? Or was this a wives tale told to me when I was a kid so that I wouldn't get bitten?

Honestly, I'm quite shocked to see that funny ol' lizard thing. I've never seen one before. Are they not dangerous? Then again, don'tcha have those Black Widows spiders in Australia? I think I'd run a mile if I saw that lizard.

Okay, now it has really sunk in that you live on the other side of the world. We have exotic grey squirrels here.

7 · Simon said:

A new, actually living pet for Harry? I hope they make friends.

8 · Santa's Little Humper said:

Perhaps Harry has finally met something HE can hump, instead of the other way around!

what got me was on tv last night or the night before - in Florida during mating season they have crocs on their front porches! A blue tongue is just a lizzy, but a croc!

I hope they become mates!

We had a blue tonged lizard living in our garden at the place we had before this. We had to mind Neils old dog for *her* one weekend, and the shit of a thing killed the lizard! I was really upset. I used to like our lizard. Best we get in this garden (so far) are skinks.

sarz - I think that's gila monsters or something... blue tongues are just cute. I don't think they can really do any damage.

*falls about laughing*

Back when I lived in The Old Houseā„¢, we had a lizard-of-some-description-I-think-twas-a-bluey. My (ex-) dog took its tail off! But then it grew back. Amazed the hell out of me, that did...

Gragh. Lizards. I thought I had a lizard in my bedroom earlier today, but it turned out I was suffering the aftereffects of doing shots of Jaeger.

14 · Elise said:

OK, that little monster is now on top of my list why I'm never moving to Australia. Reptiles scare me. And to make matters worse, my boyfriend has a pet snake. In his livingroom. Creepy.

15 · Leonie said:

Aww, I love blue tongues! Finding lots of little baby ones around our house lately.

Had a pooch when I lived in Japan who was a spittin' image of Harry. Kinda unsettling stumbling across her "reincarnation" on the web like this. She was a great, great dog. Used to get into stand-offs with lizards, snakes, cats, deer, badgers, bears, jeez, just about anything with spunk. Thanks for posting the image. I miss her more than I'd miss my dick... and I mean that.

Is it true that if u have a bluey in the yard u will never see a snake?? and why would this be? I found one yesterday (a bluey) and I was soooo relieved because I was told this years ago. I have never seen a snake in front of me and I think thats because we have always had a bluey or two around the place.

Just wondering also Who is Harry??
