Master of Suspense
Alfred Hitchcock was trying to kill me. He usually only makes those little cameos but in this film he had a starring role. It was a bizarre combination of Rear Window and Vertigo. Hitch had hired a woman to pretend to be me in order to make my death look like suicide. I looked nothing like Kim Novak, but I had a broken leg like Jimmy Stewart. I was hobbling up the bell tower and could see Hitchcock's gelatinous jowls silhouetted on the walls. And Harry was trotting beside me. Remember Harry?
I got to the top and looked out, realising I had nowhere to run. I saw my sister running over to the church and she yelled that she was going to save me. I told her Alfred Hitchcock was after me and he had quite a bit of speed on him despite his hefty frame: "Don't save me! You have to run for your life!"
"But I'm the only one who knows how the movie ends! I can stop him from killing you!"
"It's too late! I'm a goner! But we can save Harry!"
A basket appeared out of nowhere and I put the squirming hound in it, like the lady does in Rear Window, and lowered him down to the ground with a rope.
"Quick! He hates dogs! He'll sushify Harry and bury him in the garden!"
After much screaming and arguing, Rhiannon finally ran off, Harry barking and bouncing behind her. Then I felt pudgy hands seize my ankles and suddenly I was dangling out over the edge of the tower.
This is it, I thought, he'll let go and I'll splatter all over those terracotta tiles.
Then I spotted the Mothership standing by a fence. She looked up at me and waved nervously, like a bit-part actor not wanting to screw up their 15 minutes. Suddenly three tiny sparrows bombed down on her out of nowhere.
"Arrgh!" she screamed. "It's the birds!"
"What the hell are you doing?" I yelled, dangling by one foot now.
"I'm screaming. The birds are attacking me. You know, The Birds?"
"This isn't The Birds! It's Vertigo with a bit of Rear Window except Alfred Hitchcock is trying to kill me!"
"Are you sure? I mean it's your dream and all, but it's possible you could be wrong."
Interpretations, anyone?

my dreams are always like movies, this one even had the Bernard Herrmann score.
and there's always stupid made-up words in them, like sushify, which i spose means he would chop up harry and smother him in wasabi and wrap him in a seaweed body bag.
tis wacky.
Your screwed...that's all I can say.
Makes for some interesting reading though...keep up the insanity! :-)
Well, obviously the jowls in silhouette represent the trauma of your school days. In any event, I think you could have taken him - you would have had the advantage being higher up the stairs, and some quick Body Combat to his head and jowl area would have fixed his little red wagon quick smart!
I only occasionally have movie dreams - usually they're spy/covert ops ones - only very badly written.
What do you think of Rope? One of my favourites, next to Mel Brooks' 'High Anxiety'.
Your mother is the key to this one. She represents those who just don't get it, who may think they understand, but don't. She took the point of your dream to be a Hitchcock medley, and joined in.
But it wasn't a Hitchcock medley. Or, at least, the Hitchcock stuff was just a vehicle for what the dream was really about.
Rhiannon, however, did understand. This is indicated by what she said about knowing how the movie ended. And, not only did she understand, but she wanted to help. She indicates those who really know you, those who do understand.
However, being pessimistic about your own future, and concerned that attempts to save you would instead lead to adverse consequences for others (such as your sister being killed as well), you rejected her moves to help you out of your situation.
Something very clear is that you put the interests of others before your own. Not only were you concerned for your sister, but you were prepared to part with Harry in his best interests, even though you were sacrificing yourself in the process.
Well, that's my take on it, anyway. It's what just sprang into my mind when I thought, 'Oh, Shauny's mother just doesn't get it.'
But perhaps if I'd got around to seeing Vertigo and Rear Window, I'd've come up with something completely different :oP
Hm, I think it means you think you ought to let Rhi into your life a bit more otherwise she'll bugger off like Hazza. Coz you think she's a lot more ..uhnuno.. world-wise than you. Or something.
And that bit with your mum? She was just trying to help.
Or maybe, just maybe it means you watch too much TV.
Hello, it's my first time leaving a comment. Anyway i think u have a vivid imagination and it's remarkable u can remember so much details of your dreams. In your dream u had a broken leg probably meaning something is missing in yourlife. You probably still miss Harry, that's why you still dream of him(BTW i read the entry about Harry, it's very touching. i just lost one of my cats :( and i know how depressing it can be to lose a pet). Finally i think u probably find ur own mother backdated and/or not being on the same wave length as u...
hope i didn;t offend u or anything...i dont claim to know u or anything, it's just my interpretation of the dream....bye
hmmm, I like Monkey's interpretation.
Could the world be outside the tower, and hobbling up the tower be an attempt to escape inside your head?
Perhaps Hitchcock represents your imagination fuelling your inner fears, and to escape from that, you'd have to throw yourself back out into the world, even though you fear you'd surely die?
But if you'd let the dreamworld Rhiannon in...?
(A caveat: I wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of interpretations say more about us interpreters' perceptions of you than about your dreams or you yourself.)
Oh, another thought: could Hitchcock instead represent a fear of people getting inside your head and trying to force you back out into the outside world, regardless of whether or not you're ready for it? Perhaps the broken leg symbolises the unreadiness in some way?
Heh, I think I'm probably overanalyzing now :oP But I do find these kinds of dreams so interesting.
Shauny, that is kinda nuts. I'm proud of you! :)
hmmmm. tis all very interesting... thanks guys! seems the general consensus is that i have Issues :P
hasn't ANYONE seen Vertigo or Rear Window? anyone? bueller? there's broken legs, towers, ice blondes, etc etc.
I've seen both. And, despite having taken a class called dreams and dream interprtation in literature (i kid you not) I still suck at dream analysis. It's interesting, though.
I've seen them both (and more)! Here's my tongue-in-cheek attempt at analysis...
The use of Hitchcock means you're dealing with suspenseful (tense) situations. The parts your family played clearly indicate that your sister is a part of your that you want to protect, but that you can also depend on to do the job no matter how horrible that job is. Harry is the idealistic part of you that will live on even if you end up dying at the hands of Fate (Hitchcock). The mothership is your sense of doubt that all is as it seems, which is fitting, and probably why your noodle cast her in that role. But your doubt isn't very certain, it's a bit iffy, and you really believe that as things go you'll end up sacrificed instead of doing what you want to do, so the mothership also represents a little bit of hope that that's not really the case.
Or, you could have watched too many Hitchcock movies in a row with your sister after talking to the mothership on the phone about the choices your making in your life (Harry was a choice, right?).
Either way, it's more entertaining than my futuristic nightmare about sentient horses fighting gladiator battles and people living in unused colleges and schools with a bit of Keeping Up Appearances thrown in for hairy naughtiness.
So, you like birds?
